A supplier of books to libraries around the world has been the victim of a ransomware attack
Baker & Taylor, one of the largest book suppliers to libraries around the world, has confirmed that it is still working on recovering systems after being attacked by unknown cyber ransomware more than a week ago. According to a statement from the company on August 23, its servers went down after a failure that affected the company’s phone systems, offices and service centres.
The next day, Baker & Taylor announced that critical system outages caused by the incident would continue for a week while specialists worked to restore the affected servers.
“Our IT team and third-party experts are working non-stop to restore our systems. We will continue to provide updates and hope to return to normal operations as soon as possible,” the company said in a new announcement.
There is currently no information on who is behind this ransomware attack. In addition, judging by Baker & Taylor’s statements and their active work to restore the affected servers, it is safe to say that the company will not pay the ransom.
