The website France-visas, through which requests for a visa to France are submitted, was hacked in early August. This was announced on Friday evening by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the department, the work of the France-visas portal was promptly restored. However, it is clarified that some of the personal data hackers could have stolen.
“On August 10, 2021, the France-visas platform module was subjected to a cyberattack, which was quickly neutralized. However, the personal data recorded during the visa application (email addresses and identification data) could have been stolen, ”the French Foreign Office said in a statement.
The French National Commission for Informatics and Freedoms (CNIL) was reportedly informed of these facts. The government has also filed a complaint and a judicial investigation is currently underway.
