Hackers steal data from McDonald’s in U.S., South Korea and Taiwan
McDonald’s fast-food chain has fallen victim to hackers. As a result of the hack, there was a leak of “commercial information” in the United States, as well as data on business contacts of employees and franchisees from the United States.
Overall, the number of victims was “small,” McDonald’s said, without disclosing a specific number. The company also assured that the payment information of customers was not stolen.
McDonald’s has already launched an investigation into the incident and brought in outside consultants. The company plans to attract additional resources to ensure the confidentiality of business information.
The restaurant chain has already notified regulators in South Korea and Taiwan about the incident. The company will send relevant information also to customers and employees.
The company clarified that the leak did not affect the operation of McDonald’s restaurants. The hackers did not appeal to the company’s management with a demand to pay a ransom for the stolen personal data.
