Largest password database published
Cybersecurity experts have discovered a 100 GB file containing 8.4 billion leaked passwords on a hacker forum, CyberNews writes.
Since the file contains at least 8.4 billion combinations, chances are your password ended up there too. Experts said that all passwords are between 6 and 20 characters long. Initially, the author of the file claimed that it contains 82 billion passwords.
The file was reportedly titled “RockYou2021”, which refers to another large database of passwords in 2009, but 32 million user passwords were lost there.
The source analysts stressed that “since most people reuse their passwords across multiple applications and websites, the number of accounts affected by this leak could potentially reach millions, if not billions.”
