REvil attacked the Pentagon’s nuclear weapons contractor
Cybercriminal group REvil has hacked the computer systems of the Pentagon military contractor Sol Oriens of Albuquerque, New Mexico, which advises the US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
According to company representatives, an unauthorized user was able to access certain documents from the Sol Oriens chains. Sol Oriens did not reveal the name of the group or confirm that it was ransomware, but CNBC learned that ransomware group REvil was responsible for the attack.
The stolen data includes invoices for NNSA contracts, descriptions of research and development projects run by defence and energy contractors dated no earlier than 2021, and payroll records containing the full names and social security numbers of Sol Oriens employees, sources said.
According to Sol Oriens, “there is no evidence that criminals have gained access to sensitive customer information or sensitive security-related information.” The company declined to say whether it paid the attackers a ransom.
