The operator of the largest hosting with prohibited content sentenced to 27 years in prison
A man of American and Irish citizenship was sentenced to 27 years in prison and a fine of $ 87,000 in the United States for possessing and distributing millions of pedophile images on the Darknet, the US Department of Justice announced Thursday, September 16, AFP reported.
Federal Attorney Jonathan Lenzner said 36-year-old Eric Marquez was one of the largest distributors of child pornography in the world.
“Eric Márquez has stored and distributed millions of horrific photos and videos of child abuse,” said Jonathan Lenzner.
From July 2008 to July 2013, according to the US Department of Justice, Marquez oversaw the Darknet web service, which hosted more than 200 pedophile sites, some of which contained images of rape or sadistic acts against teens and young children.
Eric Márquez was arrested in Ireland in 2013 during a major joint operation by the US Federal Police and Europol, and extradited to the United States in 2019.
